The easiest way to improve your close rate without getting better at sales...
Today, I'll teach you how to up your game as a remote closer by getting better at follow-up.
Today, I'll teach you how to up your game as a remote closer by getting better at follow-up.
If you’ve worked in sales, you’ll be familiar with this: you're speaking with a good-fitting prospect and it’s going well, but suddenly, your prospect goes radio silent and ghosts you.
It's frustrating, but life happens, and sometimes hiring a marketing agency drops right down the priority list.
Having a follow-up system means you’ll miss far fewer opportunities and close waaayy more of these deals over time.
Unfortunately, a lot of people suck at following up, because:
They don’t have a follow-up system
They have new leads to focus on
They don’t want to seem pushy
They don’t get how well it works
Don't worry! Here’s a 6-step email sequence you can use every time someone goes quiet to revive deals that otherwise would’ve been lost.
Let’s dive in…
➡️ Email #1 - Are you able to join the call?
Whenever a prospect is five minutes late for a call, I email them and try to connect on WhatsApp to see what's going on.
"Hi [Name],
I'm on the Google Meeting link (see below):
[Insert Link]
Are you able to join the call?
Best,
[Your Name]"
➡️ Email #2 - Are you still interested?
If they don't join the call after 10 minutes, I send them a follow-up email reminding them of their business challenge and how I am well-placed to help.
"Hi [Name],
It's a shame we didn't manage to have our call earlier.
I've reviewed your form, and [Insert Struggle] is something we can probably help you with.
Are you still interested in having a conversation about your business and how we might be able to support your growth?
If so, please reschedule our call using this link.
Best,
[Your Name]"
For context, each prospect shares their biggest struggle when they book a call with me.
➡️ Email #3 - Still interested Y/N?
If there's still no response, I send a similar email two days later, giving them another chance to engage or opt out of my follow-up.
“Hi [Name],
I'm getting in touch as I noticed that you haven't rescheduled our call yet.
Are you still interested in having a conversation about your business and how we might be able to support your growth?
If so, please reschedule our call using this link.
Best,
[Your Name]
P.S. If you are no longer interested please reply “not interested” so I know to stop contacting you."
➡️ Email #4 - Where should we go from here?
If they're still silent, I send them a straightforward email, two days later, asking them what the next steps should be.
“Hi [Name],
I tried to reach you a few times about rescheduling our call but haven't heard back…where should we go from here?
Best,
[Your Name]"
I got this from Jeremy Miner, and out of all the emails, it gets the most replies.
It's simple, non-needy, and prompts them to respond out of decency rather than feeling pressured by the chase of a pesky salesperson.
➡️ Email #5 - Should I cross you off my list?
I wait another two days and if they’re still silent, I ask them directly if they're still interested, and if not, I offer to remove them from my contact list.
“Hi [Name],
I haven’t heard from you in quite a while.
Typically when someone goes quiet for this long it’s because they are no longer interested in us helping them scale.
Is that the case in this situation? If so, do I have permission to remove you from my list?
Best,
[Your Name]"
Interestingly, this email often gets a high response rate, either with an apology for the delay or a clear indication of disinterest (which is fine).
➡️ Email #6 - Last email from me
If there's still no response, I send a final email, assuming they're no longer interested, and offer them an open invitation to reconnect if they change their mind.
“Hi (Name),
As I haven't heard from you, I'll assume that you're no longer interested in us helping you grow your online sales.
With that in mind, I've taken you off my list, as I don't want to chase you.
If you want to speak again, please book a 15-minute call using this (Calendar Link).
All the best,
(Your Name)”
Summary…
Sales reps miss seeeew many opportunities due to poor follow-up. By implementing a repeatable email sequence like this one, you can effortlessly close additional deals each month without much thought.
